The Royal House of Kashi

Akashganga is hosted within Ramnagar Fort by the royal family of Benares — guardians of Kashi's living traditions for nearly three centuries.

Our Host — HH Dr. Anant Narain Singh

Akashganga is graciously hosted by HH Dr. Anant Narain Singh, the present Maharaja of Benares and head of the royal house of Kashi. As the ceremonial heart of the city's great festivals, the Maharaja upholds the traditions of the Ramlila, the Bharat Milap and Dev Deepawali exactly as they were handed to him — and, in turn, is passing them on to the next generation of his family.

It is under his patronage that the gates of Ramnagar Fort open to Akashganga's guests — a rare honour that places living royalty, culture and tradition at the heart of the celebration.

In the Words of the Royal Family

The Maharaja's two sons, who carry these traditions forward, share what Akashganga and the heritage of Kashi mean to them.

Kashi is not merely a city; it is a continuum of faith that has flowed, unbroken, for thousands of years. Raised within these walls, we were taught that our role is to serve as custodians of that tradition — to protect it, live it, and pass it on exactly as it was given to us. Akashganga carries the same spirit. To welcome it to Ramnagar Fort is to open our home to all who wish to witness the living heritage of Dev Deepawali, so that the light of Kashi is shared with the world, generation after generation.

For our family, every festival — the Ramlila, the Bharat Milap, Dev Deepawali — is a sacred duty handed down from father to son. What we inherit, we are bound to preserve with the same devotion. Akashganga honours this idea beautifully: it does not stage our culture, it celebrates it. That is why we are proud to welcome it within the gates of Ramnagar Fort — where guests do not simply watch tradition from a distance, but become part of it, and carry a piece of Kashi's eternal spirit home with them.

In the Words of the Founders

And from those who dreamed Akashganga into being — its two founders, on the vision behind the celebration.

The timeless charm of Kashi has always been more than its ghats, temples, and traditions — it is a living civilization that continues to inspire millions. Akashganga was conceived with a vision to celebrate this extraordinary legacy through experiences that honor the spirit of Dev Deepawali, the devotion of the Ganges, and the cultural richness of Varanasi. As custodians of this initiative, our endeavor is to create a platform where heritage, hospitality, and spirituality come together seamlessly. Through Akashganga, we aspire to illuminate the soul of Kashi and share its eternal beauty with the world.

For me, Kashi has always been a place of stories, emotions, and profound human connections. Every sunrise over the Ganges and every lamp lit during Dev Deepawali reflects centuries of faith, artistry, and collective celebration. Akashganga is our tribute to these timeless traditions and the people who keep them alive. Through this journey, we seek to create immersive experiences that allow guests to witness Kashi not merely as spectators, but as participants in its living heritage. Our vision is to preserve, celebrate, and share the magnificence of this sacred city for generations to come.

In the Words of Our Mentor

Akashganga is far more than an event — it is a heartfelt effort to keep the living soul of Kashi alive. It weaves together our heritage, our community and a spirit of service in a way that inspires everyone it touches. It has been a privilege to guide this vision, and to watch it grow into a celebration that honours our traditions while welcoming the world to the sacred ghats of Varanasi.
